A badge of honor and hippie architecture...

Quite frequently, mainstream people have tried to insult merry folks of the hippie mindset and spirit by calling them "dirty", "stinking", "hairy" and "tree-huggers"... and, very often, all of that is true! But I prefer those words being badges of honor rather than insults...

  • "dirty" - referring to marks of Mother Earth on hippie skin and/or clothing. Hippies very often (some of them always) have dirty soles from walking barefoot everywhere. According to my definition, bare soles aren't dirty, they are Earth-colored from my direct skin-to-skin contact of my feet with Mother Earth Herself.
  • "stinking" - referring to the strong and musky mix of natural body scents with typically hippie perfumes like patchouli or Nag Champa incense... mainstream noses might wrinkle, but I happily and deeply inhale those sweet fragrances, sticking to hippie clothing, skin and hair, when being near kindred spirits and especially when hugging them close.
  • "hairy" - self-explanatory, really, referring both to long hair, dreadlocks, curls as well as rich natural body hair on hippies (women and men alike), merrily defying so-called beauty ideals, which have been defined by the fashion industry and their attempts to trigger and foster "beauty" consumerism.
  • " tree-huggers" are just gentle, loving, caring and compassionate people, who express their love for Mother Earth and all Her creation by hugging trees. Most often, they prefer to touch Her skin in a tender and careful way, walking gently barefoot, rather than trampling Her body roughly with boots.
I'm proud and honored to be one of them.

And since hippie folks have ideas and visions differing from the mainstream, typical hippie ways of living also involve different ways of designing a home... often recycling and using what consumerist society deems as trash, turning it into something nice and comfy...

Here's several nice examples of how hippies like to live:

Normally, the best ways to wash as a hippie are either bathing nude in a brook, river, lake or the sea or taking a shower in the rain... but if it's cold outside, this would be a perfect hippie bathroom.

Beautiful bedroom, with lots of fluffy and colorful quilts.

Travelling, living and working (bartering hippie jewelry) all at once in the iconic and typical VW hippie van...

I imagine a beautiful, dreadlocked and barefoot witch living in here...

Hippie kitchen (most likely at a Rainbow Gathering)

Regular living rooms with a fireplace? I'd rather be in this cool outdoor hippie lounge instead

A hippie house porch... Nice to sit on during sunset and into the night, listening to the crickets coming alive and fireflies hovering by...

A wooden trailer standing on a grassy place (together with others)... having a large grassy area, surrounded by trees, as a living room is nice, too - actually, this was mine for more than three years, when I lived in a trailer commune, squatting an empty area...

While a regular apartment, with electricity, cold and hot tap water, central heating, phone and internet access, etc. has its assets and advantages, these other ways of living have their special charm and magic, too... and, you can be sure to meet "tree-hugging dirt worshippers" there, greet them with a happy smile, a hug and spend a wonderful time there, meeting new inhabitants of your heart and soul.
